The Town of Matthews has purchased 9.13 acres of property on Rice Road for a new neighborhood park. The property was purchased for $338,000 from the Wake County Board of Education. The Town will apply for a state grant which could potentially pay for one-half of the cost of the land.

Renovations are underway, at the former Agriculture and Bradford Clinic Buildings, which are facilities of the Town of Matthews.
The Matthews Town Board voted Monday evening to oppose consolidation between Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte. The action by the Town of Matthews follows a move by the Charlotte City Council to establish a commission to study consolidation between the County and the City of Charlotte.

There is a broken water main in the 3000 - 3200 blocks off Crescent Knoll Dr, Matthews. Repairs are underway by CMUD and are expected to take approximately 4 to 6 hrs. There are no fire hydrants affected. However, homes in this area will have a small supply of water as the repair is made. Streets affected are Golden Hill Rd, Old Pond Ln, Bridgemere Terrace, Sunnyview Cr, Ezra Ct, Ridgebury Terrace, Terra Glen Ct and Mara Ct.
