Nancy Williams was honored by the Town of Matthews Board of Commissioners for her 30 years of service to the Town. Nancy will retire from the Town on March 31.
Mecklenburg County government offices and agencies will be closed on Friday, April 2, for Good Friday and open on a normal schedule Monday, April 5. This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Department. The Department of Social Services will also be closed on Saturday, April 3. CharMeck 311 is available 24 hours a day, and seven days a week for assistance.

Courtney Pruitt and Travis Ernsberger have completed the Fire Academy at Cleveland Community College where they earned Firefighter I and II certification. The academy involved residing at area fire stations for two months of extensive training. Pruitt and Ernsberger are volunteer firefighters with the Town of Matthews Fire & EMS Department.
April 1 Update - Paving of Trade Street, which will occur during the night, will occur the week of 4/11. Concrete work is nearly complete.
Matthews Mint Hill Rd- first level of paving will be finished today. No work this weekend and second level will be done next week. This should take three days.
A new event has been added to BeachFest Matthews - the Sandy Feet 5K & 1K Fun Run. Come celebrate a weekend of sun, fun and beach music in downtown Matthews.
Children, ages 2-5 are invited to eat Lunch with the Easter Bunny, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon, on Friday, March 26, at the Matthews Community Center. The Easter Eggstravaganza will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, March 27, at Stumptown Park.
An Advisory Committee on the Special Needs and Senior populations is in the process of being organized by the Town of Matthews.
Improvements to N. Trade Street and Matthews Mint Hill Road began March 9. Construction of concrete bumpouts at the southeast corner of John St. and N. Trade St. is underway. This work will continue down the south side of the street. Partial lane closures will occur during this time. The N. Trade Street project is delayed this week (March 8-12) due to weather conditions. Work will resume once the weather improves.
Milling and Paving of Matthews Mint Hill Road will begin Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m. Partial lane closures will occur. This will take two weeks - weather permitting. Motorists may want to avoid the area during this time.
The week of March 15, the U.S. Census Bureau will mail 2010 Census questionnaires to households throughout the nation, including the Town of Matthews. The census is a count of everyone living in the United States and, since 1790, has been conducted every 10 years.
The Town of Matthews will offer its first archery class to children ages 8 to 12 at Stumptown Park beginning April 3.
