Celebrate the 4th of July in Matthews on Saturday, July 3. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of Town Hall as everyone gathers to decorate their bicycles, scooters or wagons with free patriotic items provided by the Matthews Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department.
Then join us for the People's Parade at 6 p.m. The parade route is from Town Hall to Stumptown Park. Games and activities are from 6:30-7 p.m.
End the night with “Too Much Sylvia” who will perform a free concert in Stumptown Park at 7 p.m.
This event is co-sponsored by the Arts & Science Council.

Matthews Town Hall will be closed Monday, July 5, 2010. Crews Recreation Center and the Matthews Community Center will be open for summer camps.
Allied Waste will collect garbage and recycling on a regular schedule.
The Heathers Subdivision will be repaved this summer. Beginning the last week of June work will begin in the subdivision. Work to be completed includes curb repair, the addition of handicap ramps and milling and paving of all three miles of streets in the subdivision.

Construction continues for the Four Mile Creek Greenway. The contractor continues boardwalk construction, stone sub-base placement, and the installation of several small swale bridges. Asphalt paving should begin within the next two weeks. Centerline staking has been placed and proposed trail alignment is under review between the old town maintenance building and Four Mile Creek. Please remember that this is a construction zone and is not yet open to the public.

The Matthews Town Board of Commissioners has approved an agreement with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library System that will result in the Matthews Branch remaining open. They voted unanimously on the agreement during a special meeting held tonight.

The Matthews Town Board of Commissioners approved the Fiscal Year 2010-2011 budget during their meeting Monday. The budget focuses on maintaining current services for citizens during the continued economic recession
Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on Tuesday adopted a $1.35 billion annual budget that does not increase the property tax rate, but does include a rate increase for police services to the County residents living outside a city or town jurisdiction.

Get ready for school by coming to the Back to School Movie Night on Saturday, August 22 in Stumptown Park, Matthews. “The Princess & The Frog” will be shown at this free event. Pre-movie activities begin at 7 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk.
Join us in June for The Matthews Summer Concert & Movie Series. The movies and concerts are free and held in Stumptown Park. Attendance is free and the series will conclude on July 3 with a concert by Too Much Sylvia. The series includes a variety of concerts which begin at 7 p.m. and movies which begin at dusk or 8:30 p.m.
