FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MECKLENBURG COUNTY TAX BILLS IN THE MAIL ON AUGUST 25
Charlotte, NC— The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector will mail tax bills to approximately 379,300 property owners and mortgage companies on August 25, 2010.
Tax bills are mailed directly to the owner of the property as of Jan. 1, 2010 or the mortgage company that requested the bill for property owners with tax escrow accounts. Property owners who escrow their property taxes with a mortgage company will receive a property tax notification from the Tax Collector. These owners should review the notice carefully to ensure the bill was sent to the correct mortgage company.
Real estate and personal property tax payments are due Sept. 1, 2010. Tax payments must be paid by Jan. 5, 2011 to avoid interest charges. If mailed, the payment must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before that date. Property owners whose payments are postmarked on or after Jan. 6, 2011, will be charged 2-percent interest for the month of January 2011 and an additional ¾-percent every month thereafter until paid. Delinquent taxes will be advertised in local newspapers and an additional advertising fee will be added to each bill.
