INTERSTATE 485 CLOSED IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY

Utility crews are working to clear downed power lines

CHARLOTTE -- Strong winds from last night’s storm took down power lines across Interstate 485 in the Pineville area just before 3 a.m., closing down the interstate for the morning commute. Crews from state and local law enforcement, fire departments and the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Incident Management Assistance Patrol are working to keep the area safe while the interstate is cleared.

Officials have closed the highway in both directions from N.C. 51 (Exit 64) to Johnston Road (Exit 61) to allow utility crews to upright downed poles and power lines. The road is anticipated to re-open at 2 p.m.

Motorists traveling in this area should use the following alternate routes:
• Outer Loop – Take Exit 65A (South Boulevard) and follow to N.C. 51;
• Inner Loop – Take Exit 61A (Johnston Road) and follow to N.C. 51. Turn left on N.C. 51 back to I-485.
