Take Survey - Deadline is June 17
The Towns of Matthews and Stallings located in Mecklenburg and Union Counties have recently united in a collaborative effort to develop a Plan that will address transportation issues in the area. This Plan, identified as the Matthews-Stallings Comprehensive Transportation Plan, will be guided by local input from citizens and Town leaders to understand what is needed for the area in terms of safe travels for vehicles, pedestrian and bicycles.
Matthews and Stallings must understand how to meet local transportation demands with shrinking state and federal budgets. The Comprehensive Transportation Plan will:
- Identify existing travel patterns and transportation network deficiencies
- Identify bicycling, pedestrian, and transit alternatives to private automobile travel and congestion;
- Identify short-term and long-term improvements for roadways and intersections, some of which may be in the capital “reach” of the Town to implement; and
- Suggest policies, funding sources, and an action plan that will focus on acquiring the resources necessary to implement key recommendations.
We encourage you to get involved and provide leaders with input in how the roadway networks are performing currently and what can be done in the future to provide safe and efficient travels. Please take a moment to complete the survey and let us know your thoughts.
A drop-in public meeting regarding the plan is scheduled from 4-7 p.m., May 17, 2011 at Central Piedmont Community College, 2800 Campus Ridge Road in Matthews. The meeting will be held in Room 2215, Building #1.
Town officials and staff will be on hand to answer questions and hear your thoughts regarding transportation in the area. We hope to see you there and look forward to receiving your input on the plan.

A draft plan is tentatively scheduled to be released by November 2011. The draft will include all recommendations set forth by citizens and local leaders. Updates regarding the Plan will be available at on this website and www.stallingsnc.org.
