The Town of Matthews is accepting applications for sculptors who would like to participate in the Town’s new public art project.
Sculptures will be located primarily in downtown Matthews and include locations such as Matthews Community Center, Four Mile Creek Greenway, Matthews Fire & EMS Department and Stumptown Park.
The Town plans to rotate the sculptures every six months to allow a variety of art and artists to be showcased. The Town is seeking sculptures that can withstand the elements of outdoors, which are “touchable” by the public and can rest on pedestals. Art submitted for the program will be selected by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Committee and must not be inappropriate for any of the selected locations in Matthews.
The Town will not buy the art. Artists will donate the art for display. The art may be for sale and if sold while on display the Town will receive 10% of the purchase price.
Artists are asked to submit applications by August 8 and the Town anticipates installation of art will begin in late August/September.
