The storm on Aug. 11 damaged several neighborhoods in the western section of the Town of Matthews. Areas affected the most include Reverdy Lane, Elizabeth Lane, Matthews Plantation and McKee Road.

The Matthews Fire & EMS Department and Public Works Department and NCDOT worked overnights to remove trees from streets. All streets are now reopened.

If you have storm debris please bring it to the curb. Limbs and trees need to be cut into 6 in. diameter and 6 ft. in length sections in order for us to put them onto our trucks. Town crews will work tomorrow (weather permitting) and next week to collect this debris. Republic, who is our yard waste contractor, will also have crews out collecting debris. (Monday's yard waste route is behind schedule b/c of the large amount of storm debris. Crews will return to Monday's route tomorrow - Thursday, August 17- in an effort to collect all of the debris.

Thank you for your patience as we work to clean up after this most recent storm.
