The paving schedule is back on schedule. Reid Harkey Road, Tall Pines Lane, Burnwood Court and a section of Ivey Wood Lane were resurfaced yesterday. Deer Creek and Drive and Sadie Drive will be resurfaced today. The contractor will move over to resurface East Charles Street tomorrow.

Several Town streets will be paved during the month of September. Work to be completed includes the addition of handicap ramps, milling, reclamation and paving. Blythe Construction, who was the low bidder, will oversee the work on this project. The work is expected to be completed by the second week of October unless inclement weather further delays the schedule.

Streets to be repaved include: Reid Harkey Road, Tall Pines Lane, Burnwood Court, Ivey Wood Lane, Gum Wood Court, Woodstar Road, Timber Wood Court, Lightwood Drive, East Charles Street, Sadie Drive and Deer Creek Lane.
Milling removes the top layer of asphalt from the street. Reclamation grinds up the remaining asphalt and base in the street, mixes it with cement and water, and regrades it into the street. Not every street needs the reclamation process. A new layer of asphalt is then placed on top. Both processes result in a new street.

The current schedule is:
• Reid Harkey Road, Tall Pines Lane, Burnwood Court, Ivey Wood Lane, Gum Wood Court, Woodstar Road, Timber Wood Court, Lightwood Drive were milled September 1-2. Reclamation was completed September 21. Paving began on September 19 and was completed September 29.
Adjusting manholes, repairing road shoulders and addition of striping will occur the week of October 2.
• East Charles Street (from Crestdale Drive to N. Trade Street) was milled on September 6. A portion of East Charles Street was reclaimed on September 28 and will be paved on October 1.
• Sadie Drive and Deer Creek Drive was milled on September 6. A portion of Deer Creek was reclaimed on September 27. Deer Creek Drive and Sadie Drive are being paved September 30.

If you live on these streets please do not park on the street while work is underway. Vehicles that have to be moved will be towed at the owner’s cost. Also, please drive slowly through the work area. Driving quickly can spread cement and tack onto your car. Neither the Town nor the contractor will be responsible for this. Work on the streets will be done between 7:30 a.m. and dark. The work is part of the Town’s Annual Resurfacing Program and will cost approximately $554,800. If you have questions about the project please call the Matthews Public Works Department at 704-847-3640.
