The Town of Matthews Planning Board is looking for a student who is interested in making a difference in the Town’s future development. The Planning Board wants a youthful perspective as they decide issues on the future growth within Matthews. The student would be a non-voting member of the board.

If you are interested in sharing your desires for your community we want to hear from you. You must be a Town of Matthews resident enrolled in high school; willing to express opinions from a youth perspective in public meetings on whether new development concepts would be appreciated and used by teens and young adults within Matthews; interested in exploring urban planning, public administration, political science, or related local government fields as a career opportunity; commit to attend monthly Planning Board meetings on the 4th Tuesdays of each month and Town Board of Commissioners planning-related meetings on the 2nd Mondays of each month; and be willing to conduct occasional independent activities, such as interviewing a local representative, spending a half-day shadowing a professional planner, or completing a short research project on a community planning topic, etc.

Interested candidates should complete the one-page Youth Voice application form and return it to the Matthews Planning Department by September 26, 2011. We will select the teen by October 12.

If you are interested in serving as the voice for youth in the Town please complete a short application. For more information contact Kathi Ingrish, Matthews Planning Director at 704-847-4411 ext. 236 or kingrish@matthewsnc.com
