The Town of Matthews has received a $20,000 grant from the Carolina Thread Trail. The grant monies will be used to aid the Town in the first step of designing how the Carolina Thread Trail and the Town’s planned greenway system can best connect.
"We are very excited to receive this grant. As we continue to plan our trails and greenways it makes sense for us to coordinate our efforts with those of the Carolina Thread Trail staff wherever possible. Connectivity both at a local and regional level will allow more people to gain the most benefit from our trail and greenway systems," said Lee Tillery, Director of the Town’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource Department.
Town staff will work with the Carolina Thread Trail staff on studying the geographical areas identified in the Town’s greenway master plan and the feasibility of what the next steps will be in expanding the greenway system.
Once completed The Carolina Thread Trail will encompass 15 counties in N.C. and S.C. and include trails, blueways and conservation corridors.
