Police Officers Promoted

The Town of Matthews Police Department has promoted two officers, Jamie Matthews and Stason Tyrrell, to the position of Sergeant. Both will serve as sergeants in the patrol division. Officer Grant Nelson has been promoted to the position of Corporal in the patrol division.

Stason has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice form the University of Central Florida. He began his law enforcement career as a police officer in Asheville. In 2005 he earned an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate. Stason joined the Matthews Police Department in 2007 and he has been serving as the Community Resource and Public Information Officer for the department.

Jamie Matthews has been an officer with the Matthews Police Department for 14 years. He worked as a dispatcher for the department prior to becoming an officer. He was promoted to the corporal position in 2007.

With the promotions comes the opportunity for reassignments for other officers in the department. Sergeant David Harrington will move from Animal Control and Employee Training to the Criminal Investigations Division and Sergeant Bill Shaw moves to the Support Services Division. Officer Robert Holmes moves from the Patrol Division to Criminal Investigations.
