Matthews Opposed To Consolidation

The Matthews Town Board voted Monday evening to oppose consolidation between Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte. The action by the Town of Matthews follows a move by the Charlotte City Council to establish a commission to study consolidation between the County and the City of Charlotte.

“The local government structure of the Town of Matthews includes experienced and dedicated elected officials and professional staff members who are able to work effectively and efficiently for the people of the Town. We provide a high level of services that our citizens use daily and are able to respond quickly to the needs of our citizens because of the close proximity that exists between us and the residents of Matthews,” said Matthews Mayor Jim Taylor. “We have seen no evidence that bigger government is better.”
