We invite your family or civic organization to Come Out, Get Involved, and GO GREEN! Several activities are planned to celebrate the Earth this Saturday, April 24.
Matthews Earth Day Celebration: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Stumptown Park.
This family friendly Earth Day Celebration features great live music by GB &Me, interactive displays and exhibits, children’s activities, hands on crafts, and much more! You can bring the following items to the event that area businesses and nonprofits will recycle and use.
• Cell phones
• Aluminum pull tabs (from soda cans, for example)
• Egg cartons
• Eyeglasses
• Inkjet cartridges
• Hard plastic bottle caps (from soda and water bottles, for example)
• Corks (synthetic or real)
• Wire coat hangers
• Computers - Goodwill will be on site accepting old computers and computer components
This event is cosponsored HAWK (Habitat and Wildlife Keepers) and Goodwill. Concessions will be on sale. For more information call the Matthews Community Center at 704-321-7275.
4th Annual Cleaning & Greening of Matthews: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Stumptown Park (check-in)
Join us as we clean up Matthews. We will clean up streets, parks and other places in the Town. Scouts, churches, civic groups, families and anyone who wants to volunteer are asked to gather at the park for registration and instruction. Materials will be provided such as garbage bags and safety vests. Bring your own gloves. For more information contact Pat Meehan at 704-841-8374.
Community Protection Event: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Harris Teeter, Matthews Festival Shopping Center.
This event will focus on protecting your family. Bring unused or expired medications and documents that you wish to be shredded. Agencies will be on hand to destroy the medications and shred documents. We will also collect old cell phones which will be refurbished and given to senior citizens and victims of abuse for their use. This event is sponsored by the Matthews Police Department, Harris Teeter, Shred-it, and Cell Phone Bank.
