Tom Risser has been chosen as the sculptor for the KP Park Project. Tom took up sculpting 11 years ago as a weekend hobby. He is the president and owner of U.S. Bottlers Machinery Company in Charlotte. He is the fourth generation of Rissers to operate the 100 year old firm which manufactures packaging equipment and machinery.

Tom is a native of Chicago and holds degrees in mathematics and economics from Guilford College and an electrical engineering degree from North Carolina State University. He is the former owner of the Eight Legs Gallery in Waxhaw where his art is still featured. His art celebrates everyday life and conveys his passion for fun. He enjoys creating his art from metal, fused glass, plastic, and granite.

For KP Park his sculpture will be of a horse composed of stainless steel. The Town budgeted $2,000 for the project and Tom is now graciously donating the money back to the town minus his cost of materials. The park is expected to be completed in May 2010. The pocket park will be located adjacent to Town Hall off Matthews Mint Hill Road. When completed, it will be dedicated in memory of Kay Plyler, who was a long-time Town employee and serving as the Assistant Town Manager at the time of her death.

Tom and his wife, Daisy, and two children, Sam and Carson reside in Marvin.
