The Town of Matthews is bringing the beach to you and your family. The Town will host its second annual BeachFest Matthews April 30 and May 1 in downtown Matthews. The weekend will feature free beach music concerts by The Catalinas, The Tams, Band of Gold and the Legendary Drifters. Presenting Sponsor for the event is Presbyterian Hospital – Matthews.
“We all need a weekend at the beach right now. Between Spring Fever and the economy we need the opportunity to relax and put our toes in the sand. We’re making it easy by bringing the beach to you,” said Jayson Johnston, Special Events Manager for the Town of Matthews. “The weekend is full of live beach music, shagging, sand, a volleyball tournament, an arts and crafts show, boardwalk rides and amusements and food. Everything your family needs to have a good time at the beach.”

Armband Night for the BeachFest Amusements Area ($10 all-you-can-ride)

Sandy Feet 5K and Fun Run, presented by the Matthews Civitan Club, is Saturday, May 1 at Stumptown Park. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. followed by the 1K Fun Run at 10 a.m. The 5K is a USA Track and Field certified course. The All the Right Grooves Band will serenade runners as they begin their run.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics and other local charities who work to make the lives of people with developmental disabilities better. Register online at www.sandyfeet5K.com. Online registration is $17 before April 26 and $25 after April 26. Day of race registration is $25. All 5K runners will receive a free t-shirt. The1K Fun Run is free.
