COUNTY CELEBRATES COMPOST AWARENESS WEEK WITH SERIES OF COMPOSTING WORKSHOPS
Charlotte, N.C. - Mecklenburg County's Waste Reduction Program is devoted to eco-friendly gardening year-round. But during International Compost Awareness Week, May 2 to May 8, 2010, the County is rolling out the red carpet for wannabe composters with an array of free programs and workshops dedicated to the practice of turning yard and kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich fertilizer for your flowers and vegetables.
Learn more about composting at one of the following events:
Sunday, May 2, 2010: International Compost Awareness week kickoff at Little Sugar Creek Community Garden, at 17th and Alexander streets in Belmont. Experts will hold a class and demonstration to illustrate the benefits of composting. Noon to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, May 5, 2010: Lunch and Learn workshop on worm composting. Little Sugar Creek Community Garden, noon to 1 p.m.
Thursday, May 6, 2010: Lunch and Learn workshop on compost bags and guerrilla gardening. Urban Ministries, 935 N. College St., noon to 1 p.m. Contact Don Boekelheide at 704-347-0278 ext. 245 for more information.
