MOTORISTS CAN EXPECT LANE CLOSURES ON U.S. 74 EAST OF CHARLOTTE BEGINNING FEBRUARY 1
Lane Closures will be restricted to overnight periods through February 15

CHARLOTTE – Motorists and commuters who travel east on U.S. 74 between Matthews and Indian Trail can expect intermittent lane closures beginning Monday, February 1 at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The lane closures are necessary for a local engineering firm to perform geotechnical work for the Monroe Connector/ Bypass Project. Crews will drill at approximately 60 locations to take soil and rock core samples.

Lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday through February 15, weather permitting. The project limits begin at I-485 and extend east to Indian Trail-Fairview Road (State Road 1520).

The Monroe Connector/Bypass is a proposed toll facility in Mecklenburg and Union counties.  The project is a four-lane, controlled access toll road approximately 20 miles long from U.S. 74 near I-485 to U.S. 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville.  It is expected to save travelers nearly 30 minutes per trip.
