The Town of Matthews is accepting applications for sculptors who will design and produce an art piece that will be located in the Town’s newest park. The Town is constructing a pocket park. Called KP Park, the pocket park will be located adjacent to Town Hall. When completed, the park will be dedicated in memory to Kay Plyler, who was a long-time Town employee and served as the Assistant Town Manager at the time of her death.

The park will have an equestrian theme honoring Mrs. Plyler’s love of horses. Horseshoes must be incorporated into the design of the sculpture. The Town seeks entries from North Carolina and South Carolina artists.

The Town expects to select an artist by March 5 and the sculpture will need to be ready for the park opening in May 2010. The Town has budgeted $2,000 for this project.
