A new event has been added to BeachFest Matthews - the Sandy Feet 5K & 1K Fun Run. Come celebrate a weekend of sun, fun and beach music in downtown Matthews.
The Matthews Civitan Club will host the Sandy Feet 5K & 1K Fun Run at Stumptown Park on May 1. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. followed by the 1K Fun Run at 10 a.m. The 5K is a USA Track and Field certified course. The All the Right Grooves Band will serenade runners as they begin their run.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics and other local charities who work to make the lives of people with developmental disabilities better. Register online at www.sandyfeet5K.com. Online registration is $17 before April 26 and $25 after April 26. Day of race registration is $25. All 5K runners will receive a free t-shirt. The1K Fun Run is free.
In addition to the Matthews Civitan Club the run is sponsored by Knotts Builders, Chris Hobart Financial Planning, Carolinas Chiropractic Wellness Center, Elliott Davis, Clear View Eye Care Center, Diamond Springs and Harris Teeter.
After the run participants are encouraged to enjoy all of the BeachFest activities including shagging, arts & crafts, sand sculpture, games, rides, food and of course, great beach music.
BeachFest Matthews will be held from 6-10 p.m., Friday, April 30 and 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., Saturday, May 1, in downtown Matthews. Saturday night the legendary Drifters will perform. For more information visit www.matthewsnc.com.
