JEAN OMOLETSKI NAMED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

The Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) is pleased to announce the following:

Jean Omoletski, a member of the Public Works Department, has been named the Town of Matthews Employee of the Year.

Last year, while on duty, Jean Omoletski saw smoke coming from the back yard of a house. Jean jumped out of his truck and ran to the house where he found the deck on fire.

Jean used a water hose at the house to put the fire out. After he put the fire out the family who lived at the house came out and realized what had happened.  Apparently a cigarette had fallen off of the deck rail onto a pair of shoes, causing the fire which burned the deck and a corner of the house. Jean’s actions saved the occupants of the house as well as the deck and home.

“Jean is one of the most diligent and safety conscious employees in the Town and the quick and kind action that he took to save this house and family do not surprise me at all. He is one of our best,” said Ralph Messera, Director of Public Works.

Jean joined the Town of Matthews in 2006 as a member of the Landscaping Division. A native of Florida, he previously worked for UPS, before joining the Town. He and his wife, Erica, have two sons, Zachary and Tyler. They are active in their community and Jean is the assistant soccer coach for his son’s team.
