Service Divisions

The Matthews Police Department's operations fall within four primary service divisions: Administrative Division, Criminal Investigations Division, the Patrol Division, and the Support Services Division. Here is a brief overview of the service provided by these teams:

Administration Division

Led by Police Chief Rob Hunter, this division is also comprised of the Police Records Office, led by Records Manager Cecilia Estey, and our Property Control Services. The Police Records staff is responsible for the daily compilation and validation of all police records & reports. On a typical day, more than seventy items (incident / arrest reports, citations, etc.) must be accounted for, entered & properly secured. This staff also produces and submit monthly county, state & federal crime reports. Additionally, this office also handles all walk-in traffic for the department. Also reporting to our Records Manager is our department's Property (Evidence) Custodian. This person is responsible for the processing, securing, and the accountability of all found and evidentiary items obtained or seized by members of our department.

Patrol Division

Led by Captain Carla Thompson, this division is staffed by approximately forty sworn members, most operating on one of four twelve-hour teams. On a typical day, our officers will respond to more than 120 calls for service from our community, which will include an average of five traffic collisions and thirty-five traffic stops. We also field two K-9 teams within this division, Officers Kevin Osuch and his partners Reno (Belgian Malenois) and Gracie (bloodhound), and Officer Jeff Corbett and his partner Bosco (Belgian Malenois.)

Criminal Investigations Division

Led by Captain David Dufresne, this staff of ten sworn investigators and one non-sworn support person is charged with the investigation of most serious crimes. Our investigators receive specialized training in various areas including fraud, computer forensics, offenses against children, as well a vice and narcotics offenses. Members also serve upon various local & regional criminal task forces, which provide our department and community with much-needed training, equipment and resources to combat intricate and time consuming criminal offenses.

Support Services Division

Led by Captain Garland Amos, this division consists of three separate but interrelated service areas: School & Community Safety, which is comprised of our three School Resource officers, one DARE Officer, and our Community Resource Officer. These officers are primarily responsible for the continuous safety of our five public school campuses, as well as the promotion and coordination of our various community safety programs. This division also fields our full-time Animal Control services, our In-Service Training staff, and our Emergency Communications Center.
