Matthews Community Center opened in 1907 as the town's first public school. Over the decades, the classic brick schoolhouse was expanded to meet the demands of this growing community. When the aging building faced demolition in the 1990's, the Town of Matthews stepped in with a multi-million dollar restoration effort. Matthews’ picturesque past and dynamic future. The hardwood floors still gleam in the classrooms, where yoga classes meet in the morning and band rehearsal begins after school. The original exposed beams still line the roof of the theatre, newly renovated and upgraded to serve as one of the area’s premier performance spaces.

The new Matthews Community Center is alive with possibilities and opportunities for all citizens. We invite you to attend our year-round slate of cultural events... to participate in the classes and holiday programs presented by the town... to take advantage of our full range of facilities for birthday and anniversary parties, wedding receptions, dances live performances and business meetings.

• Completely refurbished 362-seat auditorium with stage, dressing rooms, and state-of-the-art audio & lighting control.

• Antiques, Arts & Crafts Show held each December as part of Matthews’ Hometown Holiday festival.
