Section C (Over the CSX Tracks)
This project is recommended for state funding for Fiscal Year  2014-2015. The N.C. State Board of Transportation will have to approve this project.

Update February 25, 2008
McKee Road over the CSX  tracks
This is a new possible segment which is being designated as “Segment C”. A requested has been submitted for Federal STP-DA funding for an overpass over the CSX to be funded in FY 2014. This is a $2.0M request and the Town and/or others will be responsible for $400,000. This request received a favorable report from the local transportation staff group, and will go the TCC and then the MPO in March. If this segment is approved by the MPO and placed on the TIP, we will have a funding source for almost the whole project, though additional funds may still be needed. In addition there are still a number of right-of-way issues to be hammered out.  There is a possibility that by using the “Cary Plan” this whole project may be advanced by several years.

The Town Board awarded a contract for the concept design phase for McKee Road to Kimley-Horne at their meeting on January 14, 2008.

Public Works Director, Ralph Messera, met with NCDOT on January 14, 2008.    The following was suggested:

       * Consider doing the environmental study for the whole project, Pleasant Plains to Independence, at one time. They
may have some money ($250,000) to provide towards this work. The Town would also need support from
         Hendrick.

       * Set up appointment with DOT environmental staff and the Corps of Engineers to review the next steps in the
         environmental review process.

       * Seek STP-DA funding for FY 2014 for an overpass over the railroad as part of this project.  (This request is in
         process.)

The Town of Stallings is in support of this project and has condemned a piece of property to allow the McKee Road overpass over Independence Boulevard to proceed.
