CHARLOTTE
– A $1.8 million project to build a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 51 and Idlewild Road is anticipated to open Sunday evening, August 27, prior to school resuming Monday morning, August 28.

The intersection has been closed since late June for contractor Blythe Construction to build the roundabout. Utility conflicts delayed opening the road, originally scheduled for August 18.

With favorable weather, paving operations should be completed this week, which may require brief closures at driveway approaches. The contractor also has to install signs and place final pavement markings.

Once the roundabout opens, additional lane closures may continue for a couple of weeks for seeding and mulching and other final items.
